Ahmedabad University was established in 2009 which is a private, non-profit institution. The university was founded by Ahmedabad Education Society (AES) which is located in Ahmedabad and is a non-profit educational trust. Ahmedabad Education Society was established at the behest of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and several other leaders and prominent industrialists of Ahmedabad such as Kasturbhai Lalbhai, Ganesh Mavalanka, Amrutlal Hargovandas. In the state of Gujarat, throughout India and the world advance education should be served by the university this is ensured by the Ahmedabad Education Society. Several other institutes that are founded by AES are National Institute of Design, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology or (CEPT) and Physical Research Laboratory. Various institutions such as AG Teacher’s College, LD College of Arts, HL College of Commerce, MG College of Science, LM College of Pharmacy  and LD Institute of Indology are supported by the Trust.
