Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences was established in 1986 with Vijayawada as Headquarter by the Government of Andhra Pradesh by the vision of the late legendary, Padmashree Dr N T Rama Rao, erstwhile Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. By Chief Minister Dr. N.T.Rama Rao the University was inaugurated on 9th April, 1986 with at No.6 of the A P Legislature was passed accordingly. From 1st November in the same year University started functioning.

For preparation of medicines for cure of human ailments, university advocates and promotes improvisation of available natural resources. All disciplines of health sciences are brought under one roof by establishment of the university namely modern medicine, allied health sciences like dentistry, paramedical sciences, ancient Indian systems of medicine, physiotherapy, nursing.

The objectives of the University are:

  • In Andhra Pradesh improvement of standards of medical education.
  • In all the affiliated colleges maintenance of uniform curriculum.
  • To arrive at solutions to the health needs of the people of Andhra Pradesh, conduction of a good quality basic and applied research.
