Mizoram University is a central university was established on 2 July 2001 by the Mizoram University Act (2000) of the Parliament of India. Governor of Mizoram acts as the Chief Rector and President of India is the official Visitor as per Mizoram University (Amendment) Bill, 2007. 

Within the current Xth Plan it hopes to bring the number to a total of 27 departments. From various rented buildings in Aizawl the university under NEHU functioned for over two decades. It now has a total of 18 academic department initially, the university had seven academic departments inherited from NEHU. 

It is located in western outskirts of Aizawal city with its lush green scenic hills, located at Tanhri in the western outskirts.

  • By providing instructional and research facilities in such branches of learning objects of the University shall be to disseminate and advance knowledge.
  • For promoting innovations in teaching learning process and research to take appropriate measures.
