The Department of Fisheries was initiated in Tamil Nadu Horticultural University (TNAU) during 1973. The Fisheries Square, Thoothukudi was settled in 1977 and the 1st batch of candidates for B.F.Sc., course were admitted. The Fisheries dorm was enhance as Fisheries College and Analysis Institute  all the while the year 1989. The Fisheries College and Analysis Institute, Thoothukudi became a combining School of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Discipline University with aftermath from 20-09-1989. Tamil Nadu Fisheries University was settled on 19-06-2012 with main office at Nagapattinam. In due programs of time, the TNJFU have achieved widespread acceptance as University of greatness.
