Ekalavya Campus of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan (Deemed University) New Delhi is Situated in the state of Tripura. The kingdom of Tripura in its peak included the whole eastern region of Bengal from the Brahmaputra river in the north and west, the Bay of Bengal in the South and Burma to the east during the 14th and 15th centuries A.D. Maharaja Kriti Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, the last ruler of the princely state of Tripura, Who ruled from 1947-1949, after whom the kingdom merged with India on 9th September 1949 and the administration was taken over on 15th October 1949 with Agartala its Capital. Tripura became a Union Territory on 1 July 1963 and attained the status of a full-fledged state on 21 January 1972.
Agartala, the Capital of Tripura is second largest city in Northeast India after Guahati both in Municipal area and population. Tripura is called the land of Tribal Peoples. Among the 19 Tribal groups Tripuri, Riang, Jamatia, Chakma, Halam, Lusai and Mogs are the dominant groups in the state. After partition of India in 1947 a huge numbers of Bengli people migrated to Tripura. The state via Agartala Airport connected with other parts of India. There are direct flight connections to Kolkata, Delhi, Silchar, Aizwal, Guahati, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Agartala Airport is the second bigest airport in Northeast India after Guahati. National Highway No 44 connects Agartala to Assam and the rest of india by road, also known as the lifeline of Tripura. Since June 2008 Tripura has been connected to other cities in India trough Agartala Railway Station. Among the places of interest the Ujjayanta Palace (Palace of the Tripura Kings) is a tourist attraction of Agartala. The name Ujjayanta Palace was given by the famous poet Rabindranath Tagore. The famous poet visited the state of the Tripura quite a certain amount of time. He had a differnt heart for this kingdom and loved it a lot. Jagannath Temple, Umamaheswar Temple, Venuban Buddha Vihar, Krishna Mandir, Malancha Niwas, Sipahijala, Neermahal ( Palace amidst a natural Lake, Rudrasagar), Pilak (Buddhist Scripture of 7th & 8th centaury ) , Unokoti, Kamalasagar, Jampui Hill (The Kashmir of Tripura which produces Orange), Matabari (at Udaipur), Chaturdash Devata mandir are interested places for tourists. Durga puja and Saraswati puja are celebrated with great grandeur and ecstatic enthusiasm, which reflect the influence of the culture of the Bengalis. Among the native Tripuri festivals, the most famous are Kharachi and Garia festivals and Tring the Tripuri new year celebrations. There are several universities such as Tripura University (A Central University), ICFAI University, IGNOU Centre, Sikkim Manipal University of Agartala centre working in Tripura. Many Technical Colleges, Medical Colleges, Professional Colleges, General Degree Colleges, Colleges for Art & Music are also functioning in Tripura State.
