Govt Kamla Nehru Mahila Mahavidyalaya was originally established in 1964 by a managing body named Shastri Smarak Sanstha in Damoh. At that time, there were no institution of higher education in this region of Bundelkhand. Late Mr. R.P. Mody a renowned freedam fighter,took a pioneering role in establishment of this college.Earlier the college was running in a private rented house. In 1974 a major progress took place when the college developed and built its own building in civil ward area of the city. In the beginning it was purely a arts college.

In october 1982 the college was taken by Higher Education Department of M.P. Govenment and since then it become a Government College. Then the allround progress and expansion is visible. At present , there are four faculties, Arts faculty, Science faculty, Pure Home Science and Commerece Faculty.
