Godda College, Godda was built up on fifteenth August 1954 by the joint dynamic endeavors of the political dissidents and educationists of this territory. The establishment of its primary structure was set down on 29th November 1957 by the then Chief Minister of Bihar Sri Srikrishna Singh while the College building was introduced on 23rd Oct 1959 by the then President of Indian National Congress Smt. Indira Gandhi. 

Before 1960 it was associated to Bihar University and later on to Bhagalpur University. It turned into a constituent unit of Bhagalpur University on 27th February 1976 and after that the University bifurcated on tenth January in the year 1992 under a set up Sido-Kanhu Murmu University(SKMU) Dumka, Jharkhand, properly affirmed by the administrative body (UGC). 

At present it is one of the constituent units of SKM University, Dumka, Jharkhand. It is a co-instructive pioneer establishment situated in 36 sections of land of land in Godda town territory of Santal-Pargana, Jharkhand. It has been giving UG and PG level of instruction particularly to the regressive and innate network of this territory. It has kept up the nature of educating and research by offering UG level projects (BA/B.Sc) in 17 subjects and PG (MA/M.Sc) in 08 subjects alongwith explore offices prompting Ph.D level of the college.
