Queen Mary's College has been in the front line of the training of ladies as far back as July 1914, when the Government of Madras founded the Madras Women's College. The underlying admission of 33 understudies was housed in an unobtrusive structure called 'Capper House'. Be that as it may, by 1915, the College premises were extended through the administration's annexure of the territory encompassing Capper House. At this stage it offered just Intermediate courses. In 1916 under alumni courses were offered in History and Economics. Inevitably Intermediate courses in subjects like Geography, Indian Music, Physics, Chemistry and Home Science were presented. 

Miss De La Hey was the primary Principal of the College. The name of the College was changed to Queen Mary's College in 1917. This College which was begun a test premise thrived and increased lasting status in 1918. At this point it had gained notoriety and numerous young ladies who entered its entryways for training, took wing in the wake of finishing their courses. 

Training in Queen Mary's College was much looked for after by guardians of young ladies and groups of high social standing desired instruction in QMC for their girls. This train of achievement conveyed the College to its earth shattering Golden Jubilee Celebration in 1964. To observe this event, Miss. D. Delahey M.A.,B.T., the main Principal of the College went from England: she offered her felicitations and conveyed the appreciated location. The Golden Jubilee Hall was initiated on this event. The structure which houses the Golden Jubilee Hall likewise has various study halls. 

Another achievement was crossed in 1965, when the late, Mr. M. Bhaktavatsalam introduced the PUC course for the night College. 

In 1975 Diamond Jubilee of the College was commended. The feature of this event was that the previous Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi graced the event. In 1987-1988 the College obtained 'Self-ruling' status. In 1990 the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations were held. The then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. M. Karunanidhi graced the event. To recognize this occasion another structure was developed. The extraordinary focal point of the Platinum Jubilee year was the presentation of the B.Sc. Software engineering.
