The Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany celebrates the name of its reverend author, Professor Birbal Sahni, one of the extraordinary children of present day India. In September 1939 a panel of palaeobotanists working in India was shaped, with Professor Sahni as Convener, to organize palaeobotanical explores and to distribute periodical reports. The principal report entitled 'Palaeobotany in India' showed up in 1940 and the toward the end in 1953. On May 19, 1946 eight individuals from the advisory group, who at that point happened to work at Lucknow (K.N. Kaul, R.N. Lakhanpal, B. Sahni, S.D. Saxena, R.V. Sitholey, K.R. Surange, B.S. This trust was doled out the activity for the establishment of a Research Institute. By a goals passed on tenth September 1946, the Governing Body of the Society set up a 'Foundation of Palaeobotany' and delegated Professor Sahni as its first Director in a privileged limit. Pending the obtaining of lasting spot crafted by the Institute was completed in the Department of Botany, Lucknow University, Lucknow.
