Jamal Mohamed College was established in 1951, as a partnered College to the University of Madras and after that subsidiary to Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, when it was framed in 1984. 

The College is controlled by the Society of Jamal Mohamed College. It is set up in a rambling area zone of 87 sections of land, as a religious minority foundation. Hajee M. Jamal Mohamed Sahib and Janab N.M. Khajamian Rowther , of worshipped memory, were the establishing fathers of this foundation. 

In the year 1957 the College got the single respect of being sectioned with the thirty best universities in India when Dan forward Foundation of USA chose the College for the honor of study associations in U.S.A. In 1963 the College was raised to the status of a post-graduate College. 

In the year 1972, the College was perceived by UGC New Delhi, for Grant purposes under segment 2(F) and 12(B) of the University Grants Commission Act 1956. In 1977, on the suggestion of the University of Madras, the UGC perceived the College as one of the ten "Lead universities" in the college territory. During 2004-2005, the UGC, Government of Tamil Nadu and Bharathidasan University gave Autonomous status for every one of the projects. 

The College has been authorize at Five Star Level by NAAC during 2002 and gave withAutonomous Status by UGC, New Delhi and Bharathidasan University in 2004-2005. In January 2009, the College was reaccredited with A-Grade - CGPA 3.6 out of 4.0. The College observed Diamond Jubilee capacities during 2010-2011. Our College was presented with the extraordinary respect of "CPE" status (Phase-II) by the University Grants Commission under the Scheme "Colleges with Potential for Excellence". We have held 'A' Grade by NAAC during the third cycle of re-accreditation in 2015.
