'Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha' was set up in the year 1918 by our darling dad of the country Mahatma Gandhi with the sole point of engendering Hindi in southern states. The first Pracharak was none other than Devadoss Gandhi child of Mahatma Gandhi.
'Hindi Prachar' was a development that risen as a major aspect of Freedom Movement and the pioneers who drove the country to 'FREE INDIA' felt the need of making a solitary Indian Language the National Language, and through that language bind together the individuals and in this way heighten National Integration.
1927 saw the rise of Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha as a free association and Mahatma Gandhi was its President till he inhaled his last.
Gandhiji wanted that the 'Hindi Prachar' in the south ought to be carried on by including the neighborhood individuals of the separate zone. Till 1920, this Sabha had its office at George Town in Madras and after certain years moved to Mylapore and from there on to Triplicane where it worked till 1936.
Commonplace Branches were built up in 1936 to strengthen the development and that year saw the Sabha moving into the then new town, Thyagaraya Nagar, in Madras on a rambling 7-section of land. The establishment for the structure was laid by Janab Abdul Hameed Khan and the structure was pronounced open on seventh October, 1936 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who was then the President of the Indian National Congress.
Starter Examinations were being held consistently from 1922. The primary degree level assessment 'Rashtrabasha Visharad' was directed and Convocation held which was tended to by Kaka Kalelkar in 1931.
The Sabha praised its Silver Jubilee in the year 1946 after the Second World War and Gandhiji managed the festivals.
