St. John's College, Agra, was set up in 1850 by the Church Missionary Society of England through the endeavors of the Agra C.M.S. Affiliation which appeared in 1840. The primary Principal of the College The Rev. Thomas Valpy French, a recognized individual of University College, Oxford, was a man of extraordinary vision and evangelist enthusiasm. At its origin, the College figured its own educational plan and led its own assessment. From 1862 to 1888 the College stayed partnered to Calcutta University and later dependent upon 1927 to Allahabad University. In 1927 with the development of Agra University, the then Principal of the College Dr. A.W. Davies turned into its first Vice-Chancellorand the College was associated to the Agra University. 

The College from its start strived for expansion of training keeping allotment of social equity through instruction and upliftment of the oppressed as one of its significant concerns.
