At first Sub Regional Center was begun at RC, Darbhanga in April, 2005 to advance the projects of IGNOU in North Bihar. Before this extraordinary class of Study Center was likewise begun in all the locale of North Bihar with constrained courses like BPP, BA, B.COM. what's more, few Master Degree Programs in Social Sciences and Humanities least in one Govt. School. Because of increment in enrolment number, it was redesigned as Regional Center on 06th December, 2006 with Code No.- 46.  According to RSD Notification vide No.- IG/RSD/Notification/11/1825 dated 27th June, 2011, another Regional Center in particular Saharsa with Code-86 is built up via cutting eight areas from Regional Center, Darbhanga for example – Khagaria, Saharsa, Supaul, Madhepura, Katihar, Araria, Kishanganj and Purnea. Again according to RSD Notification vide No.- IG/RSD/30 SSC/2012/95 dated 22.01.2013 two locale specifically Saran and Siwan under RC, Darbhanga has been moved to the purview of RC, Patna.  Presently this Regional Center is planning University activities in ten regions of North Bihar i.e.- Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samastipur, Begusarai, Muzaffarpur, East Champaran, West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Gopalganj and Sheohar. At present absolute No. of LSCs are 20 under this locale:-
