IKGPTU was established by associate Act of State law-makers of geographic area in 1997 to market technical, management and pharmaceutical education within the state at degree level and on top of.

The School was launched by Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, then President of Republic of India in Dec 2003, as PTU’s Gian Jyoti School of TQM & Entrepreneurship, a public-private partnership between PTU and Gian Jyoti Education Society (GJES). the varsity is registered as a separate society with its own Governing Council and enjoys complete body and monetary autonomy. Following the withdrawal of GJES from the partnership, the society was reconstituted as associate autonomous society of the University and renamed PTU Nalanda School of TQM & Entrepreneurship w.e.f. May 2014. the varsity is housed within the Mohali field of IKGPTU set in section seven, Industrial space, Sector-119, Mohali.
