The College was established in 1944 by the Cuttack Christian Education Board (CCEB) for the sake of Utkal Christian College and was subsidiary to the Utkal University as an Intermediate College in Arts. In the scholarly session 1946-47, it was raised to the status of a Degree College in Arts with distinction showing offices in English and Oriya. In 1949 the name of the College was changed to Christ College after the name of Jesus Christ, whose widespread love and penance have induced a recognizing impact everywhere throughout the world. At first situated in the Christ Collegiate School fabricating, the College was moved to its present premises in 1951, and depended on the land obtained by the CCEB 

Science classes were added to the current Arts classes in 1960. As per the new guidelines, +2 and +3 Courses in Arts and Science were presented during the 1983 – 84 and 1985 – 86 scholastic sessions, individually. 

Other than English and Odia, instructing upto respects arrange in Philosophy, Mathematics, Economics, History, Poltical Science, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Sanskrit were continuously included. From the session 1993-94 showing offices in Psychology, Home Science and Electronics were accommodated +2 understudies as it were. During 2000-2005, Education Pass and Honors in +3 Degree Courses was presented. In 2005-2010 Commerece Honors were presented. 

At the present College has a variety of almost 3,500 understudies on its moves with around 80 qualified instructors. The squeezing need of the College anyway is accomodation. The College keeps running in two movements both in morning and evening independently for Arts, Commerce and Science classes, respectively.However, after the contiguous land was obtained by the College in the period of May 1979, with the benevolent assistance of the Government of Orissa, and a compound divider raised on the south, the College has its very own grounds now. 

The grounds is further exetended on the south after the nearby Government land,measuring around 563 decimals alongside the structure on it, was moved to the College during the Golden Jubilee Year.
