Indira Gandhi Engineering College Sagar is fourth among the five government autonomous engineering faculties of Madhya Pradesh. this College was established by the government of Madhya Pradesh in Gregorian calendar month 1981 keeping the commercial development of Bundelkhand region in sight and named it Government Engineering College Sagar and therefore the name has been changed as Indira Gandhi Engineering College Sagar presently. In 1981 the institute was started at its recent website within the neck of the woods of Dr. Hari Singh Gour University Sagar. In Dec 1986 the institute was shifted to the new made buildings within the land of 220 Acres space assigned by the government of Madhya Pradesh in 1985 on a hammock close to Baheriya Village of Sagar District, that is concerning ten metric linear units far from Sagar town. 

Since, Gregorian calendar month 1981 College started with associate degree intake of forty students in Bachelor of Engineering program anonymously, that was a 5 year degree course and therefore the branches were assigned in third year. The intake was enhanced from forty to eighty within the year 1983. within the year 1984-85 engineering science, in 1985-86 technology, in 1988-89 engineering, in 1990-91 physics and Communication Engineering and in 2000 data Technology branches were started. 

Initially, the College was related with Sagar University and in year 2000, it's been related to Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal, M. P. the College is recognized by All Bharat Council for Technical Education (A I C T E) and every one the courses ar approved by AICTE as per mandate.
