Government Engineering College, Barton Hill was set up by the Government of Kerala in the scholarly year 1999-2000. Inside a limited ability to focus time since origin, the school has accomplished eminent scholarly greatness. The school is subsidiary to the University of Kerala for conclusive year B.tech group and APJ Abdul kalam Kerala Technological University for every single different bunches. It is under the regulatory control of the Director of Technical Education, Government of Kerala. 

The school is arranged at grand slopes of Barton Hill and the land was given by His Highness Sri.Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, the last controlling Maharaja of the regal State of Travancore. The school began its working in the long stretch of November 1999 on the structures of the Barton Hill Girl's High School, Kunnukuzhy which is currently defunct.The first head of the school was Prof. G. Jayasankar and Dr. Suresh K is the present head of the school.
