THE BHS Managing Committee was set up in 1942 by a gathering of prominent educationists and altruists and was enrolled as a non-benefit body devoted to the reason for training Its first concern was to focus on projects fundamental for teaching little fellows and young ladies in Bangalore. In 1942, the initial step was taken by setting up the Bangalore High College in a leased structure at Visveswarapuram, Bangalore. Under the stewardship of its President-Late Rao Bahadur Professor B.Venkateshchar, Retired Director of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and the committed endeavors of the Secretary Late Dharmaprakasha L.S. Venkaji Rao, a noticeable representative, the Managing Committee began the Vijaya College in 1945 in similar premises with the present Pre-University courses. During the following ten years, the College moved into its own structure in Chamarajept, because of the liberality of His Holiness of Sri Sringeri Mutt. As a piece of the expansion plan, Bangalore Institute of Legal Studies was built up at Jayanagar in 1993 and is presently housed in an Independent structure in the Basavanagudi Campus. Vijaya Pre Univerisity College , RV street, Basavanagudi Bangalore - 4 has been cut out from Vijaya College according to the Government Policy in June 2011. Plans are close by to look for an independent status for BHS First Grade College in accordance with the stipulated conditions by the UGC. It is trusted that the Bangalore University and the State Government will at present emphatically bolster such plans.
