Named after Vithalbhai Patel, political dissident and the First Indian leader of the Central Legislative Assembly under British guideline, its establishment was laid by the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. 

There is no uncertainty that solid towns make a solid country. This conviction drove two in number disapproved of individuals Shri Bhaikaka and Shri Bhikhakaka to imagine an instructive township in Charutar with the goal that training could fill in as a capable instrument of country change. This fantasy was honored by none other than the two extraordinary children of India Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. 

What is today known as Vallabh Vidyanagar, was a lush gorge where nobody set out to live. Under a forlorn mango tree, the two visionaries outlined out a plan of their vision. 

In 1945, Shri Bhaikaka and Shri Bhikhakaka enrolled a Public Charitable Trust : The Charutar Vidya Mandal (CVM) and in the heavenly convention of Nalanda and Takshashila, they established the framework of a model township (on acquired land, on account of the liberality of the neighboring towns) which was introduced by India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. 

In 1947, an Arts and Science College was the primary school to come up in the township. Educators, their life partners , understudies, residents, everyone willfully worked to bring this school up. So in 1947 with 600 understudies, it was initiated by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
