The Catholic Christian people group at Deva Matha Forane Church, Paisakary, under the Syro-Malabar Metropolitan Archdioceses of Thalassery, needed an organization of higher learning for quite a while for the advanced education of its childhood, and consequently to achieve the overall improvement of the area. Their since quite a while ago esteemed dream saw fulfillment under the capable initiative of the then Vicar of Deva Matha Forane Church, Rev. Fr. John Mullakkara (2003-2005). 

Deva Matha College, a self-financing adventure and subsidiary to the University of Kannur, began working from the Academic Year 2003–'04 in the ground floor of the now St. Thomas Block, under the visionary initiative of the Rev. Fr. John Mullakkara, the Founder-Manager. The College is arranged on a hillock with an all encompassing perspective as the site is enclosed by the magnificent mountain extend which is a piece of the Western Ghats in the Payyavoor Panchayath, Kannur. 

The College opened her gateways to the country youth, particularly from the center and lower strata of society with two Undergraduate Degree Programs, one in Physics and another in Chemistry. Prof. M. Rajan was delegated the primary Principal. From there on, two additional Bachelors Programs (B. Com. in Computer Applications (2004) and B.A. in English Literature with Journalism (2005)) were added to the current Courses of Study. 

In 2005, Rev. Fr. Anthony Purayidam accepted the workplace of the Manger. It was because of his untiring endeavors, the upper floors of the St. Thomas Block with the Auditorium was finished. Dr. P.V. Jayaprakash turned into the Principal in 2009. Under his supervision B. Com with Co-activity (2009) and the Bachelors in Business Administration (2010) were made accessible.
