In 1952, Govt. of India has built up a Central Institute of Research in Ayurveda at Jamnagar in the palacious building - 'Dhanvantari Mandir'. On twentieth July, 1956 a Post Graduate Training Center in Ayurveda (PGTCA) was set up. In 1962, CIRISM and PGTCA were converged to frame Institute for Ayurvedic Studies and Research (IASR). In 1963, IASR was renamed as Institute for Post Graduate Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (IPGT&RA). On eleventh June, 1970 Lease Deed between Govt. of India and GAU was scorched and enduring properties and so forth of IPGT &RA were given over to the GAU for the administration of the Institute. This foundation is completely financed by Govt. of India and regulated by Gujarat Ayurved University. Top rating has been given to this Institute by the Ministry of AYUSH in it's inward evaluating. Europe, Africa and SAARC nations are concentrating in P.G. and Ph.D. courses.
