The present Burdwan Medical College was set up as 'Burdwan University Medical College' by the University of Burdwan in 1969. It was an unassuming start in an empty block building (Primary school). Establishment was set somewhere around the then Honorable Health Minister Late Nani Bhattacharyaa. Later it was taken over by the Government of West Bengal on 4 August 1976, and renamed as Burdwan Medical College.
