Syamsundar college was supported by late Raibahadur Bisalaksha Bose, the honored public servant of the village Shyamsundar, Dist. Burdwan on twelfth August, 1948. Former ministers of the govt. . of province Abdus Sattar, Kalipada Mukherjee and Prafulla Chandra subunit and known insurgent like Jadabendra Nath Panja helped loads in establishing the college at Shyamsundar. P. C. Sen , the previous Chief Minister of province was chosen because the initial President to the establishment of the college. Mr. Shib Mohan Bose, the extremely qualified son of Mr. Bose had been appointed because the initial Principal of the college.

Initially, Arts, Science and Commerce streams were introduced within the college at Intermediate level.In 1952, on Bisalaksha Basu's special request, Sri Fakirdas Bandyopadhyay, ADPI of the undivided geographic area joined because of the Principal of the college. Sri Bandyopadhyay, an in-depth associate of renowned author Nazrul Islam, was a renowned scholar of Philosophy with foreign degrees Associate in Nursing an in a position administrator with imposing temperament. He was instrumental in upgrading the college to the Degree level with the co-operation of Sib Mohan Bose. In 1956, the college was notified as a Govt. With the Passage time, co-education was introduced within the college in 1967. the college completed its fifty years in 1998 and on the occasion of Golden anniversary, Sir . Hasim Abdul Halim, Speaker of the province Assembly arranged the inspiration stone of the Golden anniversary Building. This building has been made with the assistance of Sri Jiban Behari Ray’s M.P’s space Development Fund, that was inaugurated by Sri. H.A. Halim, Speaker of province Assembly on twenty-fourth Gregorian calendar month, 2002. On an equivalent day, the new body advanced and college workplace (partly supported by UGC) was inaugurated by him.
