Second Joint Indo-American Team (1960) headed by Dr. N.S. Randhawa suggested explicitly the foundation of Farm Universities and spelt out the essential goals of these Universities as Institutional Autonomy ,Inclusion of Agriculture, Veterinary/Animal Husbandry and Home Science and Integration of Teaching, Research and Extension .Later, the report of the Second National Education Commission (1964-66), headed by Dr. D.S. Kothari focused on the requirement for setting up in any event one Agricultural University in every Indian State. Accordingly, the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University (APAU) was set up on June 12, 1964 at Hyderabad. Sri O. Pulla Reddi, I.C.S. (Resigned) was the principal Vice-Chancellor of the University.  As per the arrangements of the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University Act, 1963, a portion of the Colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Science were moved from the Universities to which they had been subsidiary to the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University during June, 1964. These were: College of Agriculture and Veterinary Science, Hyderabad (built up in 1961, associated to Osmania University), Agricultural College, Bapatla(established in 1945, subsidiary to Andhra University), Sri Venkateswara Agricultural College, Tirupati (set up in 1961, partnered to Sri Venkateswara University) and Andhra Veterinary College, Tirupati (set up in 1961, additionally partnered to Sri Venkateswara University). Also, 41 Agricultural Research Stations, working under the Department of Agriculture and four Research Stations of the Animal Husbandry Department were moved to the University in July, 1966 and May, 1967, separately. The University was officially initiated on March 20, 1965 by Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, the then Hon'ble Prime Minister of India. Another Significant achievement was the introduction of the University's structure program by Smt Indira Gandhi the then Hon'ble Prime Minister of India on June 23. 1966.Subsequently, the University was renamed as Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) on November 7, 1996 in respect and memory of an exceptional Parliamentarian, Acharya N.G. Ranga who rendered remarkable self less administration for the reason for the ranchers and is viewed as an exceptional educationist, Kissan pioneer and opportunity warrior.
