Gorakhpur, one of the biggest city of Purvanchal, is economically and educationally backward. There was no Degree College prior to 1991 for imparting education in Commerce. The University was not in a position to admit students who were desirous to join Commerce stream beyond limited seats. In such circumstances, most of the students had to bid goodbye to Commerce stream and were reluctantly compelled to offer Arts subject. Considering the long cherished demand of the students, particularly Minority community and weaker section of the society, Islamia Educational Society, Buxipur - Gorakhpur. A Society, registered under the U.P Societies Registration Act, came forward to establish a Degree College in the name of Islamia College of Commerce, Buxipur, Gorakhpur(U.P).
