Meghalaya has seven DIETS i.e established in each district of the state. DIET Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills, became functional in the year end of 2004. West Khasi hills presently the largest District in Meghalaya, has six Community Development Blocks with Nongstoin as its headquarter. Being the nodal agency of Education Training Institute in the District, every DIET are expected to provide not only academic support but also educational leadership at the district level. Besides, imparting Pre/In Service elementary teacher education , DIETs are likewise responsible for the conduct of various short term trainings,educational studies and surveys, development and transaction of teacher education curriculum, assessing planning, advising and meeting overall educational needs and aspirations of the District. With the launching of SSA, DIET has a major role to play for implementation of its projects. DIET function under the direction and supervision of the Directorate of Educational Research and Training Meghalaya, Shillong which is the apex body. The Principal is the Head of the Institute who function independently and assisted by teaching and non-teaching staffs. The Institute till date is managed by Principal In-Charge since 2005. The infrastructure and facilities of District Institute of Education and Training Nongstoin consists of spread-out campus alongside various amenities in the form of library, computer center, classrooms with proper teaching and learning aids, medical facilities etc.
