The Institute of Advanced Studies in Education, Agartala has a long story about its journey commencing from 1964 and still it aims to render a glorious service in the field of Teacher education in the state. Initially, IASE was named as "Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary Teachers' Training) College" abbreviated as B.T. (S.T.T.) College. It was first established on 20th July, 1964 under the affiliation of Calcutta University, West Bengal.
The Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (I.A.S.E) is a pioneering institution in the State for imparting both Secondary and Post – Secondary teacher education and training. Later in 1996 according to an order issued by MHRD, Government of India, the College was renamed as "College of Teacher Education." It was duly recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), New Delhi on 14th January, 2000. The institution has in its credit of offering a six month abridged course for secondary school teachers approved by NCTE and affiliated by Tripura University. Moreover on 21st March, 2003 MHRD, Government of India upgraded the status of college and renamed it as "Institute of Advanced Studies in Education" (I.A.S.E). The institution since its inception is committed to gift the State efficient and effective teachers through the pre-service and in-service B.Ed. programmes. The Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (I.A.S.E) added another feather in its cap with the introduction of one year M.Ed. Course in the year 2000. According to the new regulations of NCTE 2014 the two year B.Ed. and M.Ed. courses are running in full intake capacities with adequate teacher educators in the institute. The institute aims to extend support in curriculum planning, training and expertise to schools and teacher training institutions as and when desired.
