The residents of Model Town, Ludhiana have a great affinity for recitation of holy kirtan. It was in 1975 that tradition of morning kirtan from 4am to 6.30am.was started in an organized manner. Eminent ragis used to recite kirtan daily and it emerged as “kirtan Lari” The Congregation turned out in thousands. Since this kirtan Lari was a great success, some kind hearted people with a progressive mind & having concern for the well being of society thought of starting a Charitable Hospital in memory of Shri Teg Bahadur Sahib. Therefore, a delegate with above mission met the Then Chief Minister Giani Zail Singh who was kind enough to allot a plot of land measuring 4,000sq. yards, for the proposed Hospital. Thus a thought for the noble cause gained momentum. Foundation stone of the present Hospital was laid on laid on 4.4.1976 by Sh. Dev. Raj. Urs, the then chief Minister of Karnataka .The digging Ceremony of the plinth was performed by Late Sant Kartar Sewa Singh who has been known for his self-less service to the “Humanity”. With the co-operation and generosity of Sangat, a four storeyed building came into existence which was inaugurated by S. Parkash Singh Badal the then Chief Minister of Punjab on 29.10.1978. Thus, the dream of a few enlightened and like minded people turned in reality.

A registered Trust was setup with the aim to develop this institution into a unique place for providing the best possible medical and nursing care to patients. At present, the Hospital has 354 beds and it is equipped with all modern facilities required for its functioning. An important salient feature of this institution that it meets the spiritual needs of the patients and their relatives besides meeting their therapeutic and physical needs The institution has come up by dint of hard work and sincere efforts of like minded people from “Sangat” employees and public of Ludhiana and other places in India and abroad. The thought of starting the Institution of nursing education had come from late S. Surjit Singh Bhatia an educationist, (Retired D.P.I College of Punjab), Who initiated it by donating Rs. 1 lac for this cause. Since general nursing is the base for advance studies and specialization in nursing Our institution had ,therefore ,started the education course for “General nursing and midwifery.”This was an important land mark in the history of this Hospital as this activity led better patient care.
