Biraja Mahila Mahavidyalaya was established in the year 1980 in the name of Goddess Biraja, the presiding deity of the place with an intention to provide higher education to women students of the locality as well as the nearby areas. The architects of the period were Nabakishore Satapathy, Chandramani Pand (Advocate), Poet Nirmala Devi, Umasankar Patjoshi, Girija Prasad Basu, Basanta Das, Shyamasankar Dash, Digambar Kar and Narayana Samanta, and many others. who guided this in a positive direction of the establishment of a women's college. In this Mission local Municipality, Sub Collector Jajpur, Lawers association, business community and intellectual contributed in many ways.

This college started functioning from the year 1980 in B.D. Hish School with Sub Collector as President and Sj Narayan Samanta as Secretary with Intermediate of Arts course under Utkal University.

Subsequently Utkal Keshari Das, the then chairman Jajpur Municipality took all initiatives for shifting of the College from B. D. High School to the Present Campus. During this period Sri R. K. Sahoo Reader in Economics joined as deputed Principal as this college became government aided institution.

This College received Govt recognition and Utkal University affiliation in degree stage in the session 1990-1991. Subsequently the College got affiliation for opening of Honours in History, Sanskrit and Oriya with 16 Seats each. This college received permanent affiliation from Utkal University from the session 2003-04. This college also received U.G.C affiliation Under 2F and 12B in the year 2006 vide U.G.C letter No. F-8-441/2005(CPP)-I dt.17.01.06 Now with the U.G.C. assistance this College is developing for utmost satisfaction of the Students and People of the area.
