Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, was set up by the State Legislature of Punjab by passing the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab Act, 2006. Duration of PH.D. Programme

  • From the date of Admission, the minimum duration shall be three years and a maximum of six-year including course work.
  • Two years in the aforesaid maximum duration may be further allowed to the Research Scholars woman or person with a disability.


Eligibility for Admission Ph.D. Degree in Law

  • Candidate should have L.L.M. Degree or its equivalent Degree with at least 55% marks in the aggregate or an equivalent grade B in the UGC 7 point scale of any university recognized by the UGC.
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC will get a relaxation of 5 % in the aforesaid minimum of 55% marks. 


Selection Process

  • The duration of the Entrance Test will be one and a half hours. There will be no negative marking.
  • Total marks for Written Test shall be 70 marks. 50% of the total questions will be based on the Research Methodology and 50% shall be on the main Subject Specific.
  • 50% of the marks in the Written Test will be qualifying marks. SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy layer)/ Differentially Able categories will get 5% of marks (from 50% to 45%).
  • The candidate shall not be called for an interview who scores marks in the Written Test below the aforesaid prescribed minimum qualifying marks.
  • Language for Entrance Test shall be English.
  • The Interview shall be of 30 marks.
  • Interviews will be conducted by the Interview Board for Interview for admission.

Facilities provided by the university

  • Guest House: The Guesthouse building is a twofold story building, covering a region of 29550 Sq ft. There is an arrangement of four suites at the ground floor (with an arrangement of four suites for future expansion) and 28 rooms. The Guesthouse is having a roomy eating lobby with a kitchen, V.I.P.Lounge, Mini Conference Hall, and Waiting Area. All the suites and the rooms are completely cooled and outfitted.
