Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University invite applications for admission into Doctor of Philosophy in Veterinary and Animal Sciences and Doctor of Philosophy in Biotechnology and Food Technology.

Candidates will be selected on the base of marks obtained in the Entrance Examination and other criteria

Common entrance examination
- Entrance Exam will have 75 objective type questions with four options with a maximum of 75 marks as each question will carry one mark.
- The duration of the exam will be 1½ hours.
- In the concerned subject at the Masters's degree level, the Entrance Examination will be conducted.
- As per the instructions given in the OMR coding sheet answer should be shaded with a ball-point pen in the OMR coding sheet.
- Only by the eligible candidates' Counselling information letter and Entrance Examination Hall Ticket can be downloaded.
- Candidates will have to come to the Examination Centre on their own expense who are appearing for the Entrance Examination.
- Candidates will not be permitted to appear for the Entrance Examination who are coming 30 minutes after the commencement of the Entrance Examination.
Counseling procedure
On the basis of total marks got by candidates in counseling admission to Ph.D. degree course shall be made. Candidates are not eligible for Counselling who secures less than 50% of total marks. SC/ST candidates securing less than 40% of total marks are not eligible for Counselling.

Eligibility criteria for admission
Ph.D. Degree Programmes in Veterinary & Animal Sciences
- 75% of the total seats are reserved for candidates from Tamil Nadu. For the other 25% of seat candidates from other states will be admitted through ICAR.
- If there are any number of seats remaining from reserved seats for candidates from Tamil Nadu these seats will be filled with candidates from other States.
- By maintaining a separate rank list only against the vacancies the candidates from other States will be considered for admission.
- For reserved seats for Tamil Nadu State candidates, candidates from other states cannot claim admission.
- Candidate should have 65% marks in the Masters's degree alone or OGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 under a trimester system or 6.50 out of 10.00 under semester system are eligible to apply for admission to a Ph.D. degree program. Minimum pass is sufficient for SC/ST candidates.
- Candidates cannot seek admission in those disciplines who have passed graduated at Masters's level in another discipline.
- Candidates are eligible to apply for Ph.D. in Animal Biotechnology who have an MVSc degree in any field of specialization (Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension, Animal Husbandry Economics, and Biostatistics) or MSc degree in Biotechnology with basic BVSc & AH degree.
- Candidates are eligible to apply for Ph.D. in Livestock Products Technology who have an MVSc degree in Meat Science and Technology (or) Dairy Science (or) Livestock Products Technology with a basic BVSc & AH degree.
- Candidates are eligible to apply for Ph.D. in Veterinary Biochemistry who have an MSc degree in Biochemistry or MVSc degree in Veterinary Biochemistry with a basic BVSc & AH degree.
Ph.D. Degree Programmes in Food Technology

- Candidate should have 55% marks in the conventional system in a Masters degree alone or minimum OGPA of 6.50 out of 10.00 under the semester system or 2.75 out of 4.00 under the trimester system. Minimum pass is sufficient for SC/ST candidates.

- A candidate who wants to take admission in Ph.D. Degree Programmes in Biotechnology should have Master degree in the disciplines of Biotechnology (MSc/MTech), Animal Biotechnology (MSc) Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Gene Technology, Environmental Sciences, Genetics, Marine Biology, Life Sciences and Fisheries Sciences.

About University
The seed for the foundation and development of TANUVAS was planted as right on time as 1876 when the Madras Veterinary College was begun as an Agricultural School in Chennai to offer recognition and authentication courses in the field of veterinary and creature sciences. The foundation achieved the status of a school in the year 1903 (01.10.1903), when it began working at Dobbin Hall, Chennai, and conceded 20 understudies for a three-year confirmation course called GMVC (Graduate of Madras Veterinary College). In light of the suggestion of the Royal Commission on Agriculture, the school was moved up to give a degree in veterinary science. Despite the fact that the school was the fourth veterinary organization to be begun in India, it was the first veterinary school in the nation to be partnered to a college, the University of Madras in 1935, and the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (B.V.Sc.) certificate course was begun in 1936. One more constituent unit of TANUVAS, the College of Poultry Production and Management was built up in the year 2011-12 at Mathigiri, Hosur, Krishnagiri area of Tamil Nadu to offer under alumni program, B.Tech., (Poultry Technology) of four years course. This school is the first of its sort in the nation to offer such a novel course especially cooking the requirements of specialized labor requests of the poultry industry with the order of delivering technocrats with sound aptitudes in Poultry Engineering, Management, Processing, and Technology.
