Punjabi University PhD Admission 2026 - Eligibility, Subjects, Admission Process

Punjabi University, Patiala was built up under the Punjab Act No. 35 of 1961. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the then President of India established the framework of Punjabi University on June 24, 1962. He lectured, "The establishments of advanced education share the weight of country working in a basically significant sense. Our point is a solid, free, and vote based India where each resident has an equivalent spot and full chance of development. In this undertaking, a tremendous obligation lays on our colleges." Established on April 30, 1962, in the past august province of Patiala with the principle target of promoting the reason for Punjabi language, craftsmanship, and writing, Punjabi University has since advanced into the biggest University in the state. This is the second University on the planet to be named after a language, the first being Hebrew University of Israel. Its vision is to set up and consolidate a University for the headway of Punjabi studies and advancement of Punjabi language as a mode of guidance or in any case for giving guidance in humanistic and logical subjects and by and large for the advancement of instruction and exploration. The University began working from its current lavish green, contamination-free, 316 sections of land grounds since 1965. 

At first University's ward zone was fixed as the 16 km span having just 9 schools. In 1969, it developed into an affiliating college, with 43 universities partnered to it. Presently the University obliges the instructive needs of nine districts of Punjab. Over the time since its beginning, the University has developed into a multi-faceted and multi-workforce instructive organization for the advancement of advanced education and exploration in Humanities, Arts, Sciences, Engineering Languages, Technology and some more. Spread more than 600 sections of land, its 1500+ instructors are conferring guidance and direction to almost 14,000+ understudies in a multi-faceted, multi-pronged, and multi-workforce condition including 70+ Teaching and Research Departments/Chairs on its Campus, 27 Regional Center/Neighborhood Campuses/Constituent Colleges and 274 Colleges partnered to it.

Ph.D. admission guidelines

• Candidate can apply for admission who have passed Post Graduate Degree with 55% marks or with an equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA).
• Applicants belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-abled categories will get a relaxation of 5 % in the required percentage of marks.
• An applicant has to appear for RET (Research Entrance Test) for admission to the Ph.D. program followed by a personal Interview.
• Applicants shall be exempted from RET who have qualified in GATE/NET/SET/GPAT examination of the apex bodies as ICMR/DBT/CSIR/UGC/ICAR/AICTE or M.Phil Degree in a relevant subject or senior citizen of the age of 60 years or Candidates such as Industry Professional/Employee of Government/Advocate/Doctor/Artist/Semi-Government Organizations and 10 years of professional experience.
• RET would comprise of evaluating the applicant in two papers,
• Paper-1: Research Methodology 50 marks
• Paper-2: Discipline in which the applicant intends to do Ph.D.  50 marks
• The duration of the entrance test shall be of two-hour duration (i.e. 120 minutes).
• Qualifying marks for the entrance exam will be 50% marks.
• Personal Interview which will carry 50 marks will be held for all selected applicants.

Registration after Interview 

• The candidate will present his/her Ph.D. proposition alongside the temporary Ph.D. admission enrollment form. 
• The candidate will be required to introduce a concise introduction before the RC. 
• From that point, the Committee will set up a report based on the introduction. If there should arise an occurrence of any recommendation given by the Committee for development in the examination proposition, the candidate will make changes in like manner and will introduce the exploration proposition again before the said Committee inside 3 months of the prior introduction. 
• The date of the fruitful introduction will be treated as the date of temporary confirmation of the competitor and the up-and-comer will be given a temporary enrollment/affirmation letter. 
• If there should be an occurrence of any debate/issue, Dean-Research will take a fitting choice. If where Dean-Research is Head of Place of Research, the ViceChancellor will take a fitting choice. 
• The RC will endorse the point for investigation and designate, if there should be an occurrence of interdisciplinary subjects, co-chief/s perceived from Punjabi University or, in extraordinary conditions, from other perceived Institute/University.
