NVS || Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education (formerly Ministry of Human Resource Development), Government of India. It was established in 1985 to provide quality education to talented rural children.

Key Features of Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV):

  1. Free Residential Schools – Fully funded by the Government of India.

  2. Admission through JNVST – Entry is via the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) for Class 6 (and lateral entry for Classes 9 & 11 in some cases).

  3. Co-educational & CBSE Affiliated – Follows the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum.

  4. Focus on Rural Talent – At least 75% seats are reserved for rural students.

  5. Reservation Policy –

    • SC (15%), ST (7.5%), OBC (27%), Girls (33%), and PwD (4%)

  6. Medium of Instruction – Initially in the regional language, transitioning to English-Hindi bilingual education.

  7. Sports & Extra-curricular Activities – Emphasis on holistic development.

Objectives of NVS:

? Promote national integration through migration schemes (students exchange between different states).
? Provide quality education to gifted rural children.
? Reduce urban-rural education disparity.
