About Us

Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur (MPUAT), the second Agricultural University of the state, (at first named as Agricultural University, Udaipur) appeared on first November 1999 by bifurcation of the Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner through the declaration of Government of Rajasthan Ordinance No. 6 of 1999, which turned into an Act in May 2000. This has been done taking into account wide physiographic variety including crops, editing design, atmosphere, soil boundaries, and so on in the biggest condition of the nation. Additionally, it was hard to oversee the specified assignment of instructing, examination, and expansion exercises according to the order set-out through a solitary University in the state. Other than this, it gives new fillip to area explicit projects fitter to ancestral belt explicitly for the southern Rajasthan. The University began working going all out with impact from December 1, 1999.

Perceiving the significance of agrarian development and advancement in guaranteeing the work security of its populace, the Government of Rajasthan gave a high need to create horticultural instruction, examination, and augmentation in the state. The primary horticulture school built up in the State was SKN College of Agriculture at Jobner. Later on, in 1955, Rajasthan College of Agriculture was built up at Udaipur. With the foundation of first Agricultural University at Pantnagar in 1960 on the example of Land Grant Universities of USA, Rajasthan state had the differentiation of being the second in the foundation of Agricultural Universities in the nation in 1962. It likewise acknowledged the model of land award example of instruction of the U.S.A. with the trinity of capacities for example instructing, examination, and augmentation training. The administration took the intense choice to move the exploration segment to the college which numerous different states took quite a while. Before long the college was changed over into multi workforce in 1964. Later on isolated Agricultural University was made in 1987 at Bikaner by bifurcating from the Sukhadia University, Udaipur. The chose unified Colleges at Udaipur became constituent schools of Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner.

Facilities

Central Library

  • The central library of the university is known as Dr. Amar Singh Rathore Central Library. The college had its origin way back in 1955 to establish itself as one of the oldest institutions in Rajasthan and since then has been in the process of enriching its collection in a well-planned manner. The central library and other libraries of the University in different faculties cater to the information needs of students, faculty, researchers, scientists, trainees, and agricultural officers both in conventional as well as electronic format. The library information system at MPUAT is partially automated, bar-coded, and digitized. The libraries provide a congenial environment to its readers with a good ventilated and spacious reading room and also dedicated service. All bonafide members of the University are provided various facilities and services to their readers.

Campus Networking & Internet

  • Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur is one of the few institutes in India to deploy a Gigabit campus networking providing 2-Mbps (1:1) leased through Cisco 1700 router, Cyberoam 500i UTM, Cisco PIX 515E firewall and Cisco catalyst 3550 and ISDN line connectivity not only to student hostels but also to all faculties. Wireless Internet/Intranet connectivity in each room of Under Graduate/Post Graduate hostels through 802.11g Wi-Fi network. In a network, a routing switch is a device that combines the functions of a switch to forward data by looking at a physical device address; and of a router to forward packets by locating a next-hop address.
  • A Layer -3 (CISCO) Catalyst 3550 is connected to coordinate with college across Udaipur to enable online media access, IP telephony, and video conferencing. Layer-3 is centrally located in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering which is connected to Layer-2 switch with fiber ports through the optical fiber cable. Routing switch offers a natural solution to the LAN router bottleneck, by integrating existing routing and switching technology into a single device that preserves the key benefit of both technologies. It routes data between networks to provide the logical structure and network segmentation traditionally supplied by a router. But it does so with the speed, simplicity, and low cost that has become the trademark of switches. At the same time, Layer-3 switch transfers data at high speed within a network to provide all the benefits of a standard switch. The layer-2 switch is the main distribution switch connecting all the access switches on the UTP cables, thus creating a Gigabit backbone network. Depending upon the density of uses in each college, different models of Layer-2 managed and unmanaged switches are deployed.
