- For regular mode candidates, the minimum duration will be three years and a maximum of six years including course work.
- A relaxation of two years may be allowed to women candidates and Persons with Disability.

Eligibility criteria for admission to the Ph.D. programme
- Candidate should have a Master's degree with at least 55% marks or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master's degree with equivalent grade.
- From 55% to 50% relaxation of 5% of marks may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC.
- A candidate who have completed M.Phil. course work with at least 55 % marks. From 55% to 50% relaxation of 5% of marks may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC.
- Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith candidate whose M.Phil viva voce is pending may be admitted to the Ph.D. program after a certificate issued by the examination branch.
Admission Procedure
Admission will be given on the base of the Entrance Exam and Interview.
Entrance Exam
- University will conduct an entrance test named as “Common Eligibility Test” for admission into Ph.D. Program.
- The syllabus of the CET will be the same as NET/JRF examinations conducted by the UGC/CSIR/ICAR.
- The written test contains two question papers
- First Paper will be of two hours duration which contains 100 multiple choice objective questions based on general awareness, academic aptitude, and subject proficiency of 100 marks.
- Second Paper will of three hours duration which contains 200 questions based on Research Aptitude, Subject Expertise, and Subject Knowledge of 200 marks.
- There shall be no negative marking.
- Minimum qualifying marks for the test are 50 percent in aggregate but a minimum 40 percent separately in each paper.
Exemption from the Entrance Test
- Regular teachers of the University or a college affiliated/associated with the University.
- Foreign students
- UGC-NET/JRF/CSIR/ICAR selected candidates
- Candidates who have a GATE Score of not less than 75%
An Interview/Viva-voce on Research Proposal
