Duration of the Programme

  • For regular mode candidates, the minimum duration will be three years and a maximum of six years including course work.
  • A relaxation of two years may be allowed to women candidates and Persons with Disability.
  • Women candidates may be provided 240 days leave as Maternity Leave/Child Care Leave once in the entire duration.


Eligibility criteria for admission to the Ph.D. programme

  • Candidate should have a Master's degree with at least 55% marks or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master's degree with equivalent grade.
  • From 55% to 50% relaxation of 5% of marks may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC.
  • A candidate who have completed M.Phil. course work with at least 55 % marks. From 55% to 50% relaxation of 5% of marks may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC.
  • Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith candidate whose M.Phil viva voce is pending may be admitted to the Ph.D. program after a certificate issued by the examination branch.


Admission Procedure

Admission will be given on the base of the Entrance Exam and Interview.

Entrance Exam

  • University will conduct an entrance test named as “Common Eligibility Test” for admission into Ph.D. Program.
  • The syllabus of the CET will be the same as NET/JRF examinations conducted by the UGC/CSIR/ICAR.
  • The written test contains two question papers 
  • First Paper will be of two hours duration which contains 100 multiple choice objective questions based on general awareness, academic aptitude, and subject proficiency of 100 marks.
  • Second Paper will of three hours duration which contains 200 questions based on Research Aptitude, Subject Expertise, and Subject Knowledge of 200 marks.
  • There shall be no negative marking.
  • Minimum qualifying marks for the test are 50 percent in aggregate but a minimum 40 percent separately in each paper.


Exemption from the Entrance Test

  • Regular teachers of the University or a college affiliated/associated with the University.
  • Foreign students
  • UGC-NET/JRF/CSIR/ICAR selected candidates 
  • Candidates who have a GATE Score of not less than 75%

An Interview/Viva-voce on Research Proposal

Ph.D. through Part-time

  • Part-time Ph.D. will be permitted given all the conditions referenced in the surviving Ph.D. Regulations are met.
