Kerala University of Digital Sciences, Innovation and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram Reviews on Placements, Faculty and Facilities

Kerala University of Digital Sciences, Innovation and Technology Overview

Kerala University of Digital Sciences, Innovation and Technology (KUDSIT) is a young, state‑run autonomous university that started its journey in 2017. Set up by the Government of Kerala, it was born out of the Kerala Digital Transformation Policy (2015), which warned of a looming talent gap in AI, data analytics, cybersecurity and IoT. Since then, KUDSIT has grown fast:

  • 2017 – the university act was passed and about 120 acres of land near Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram, were earmarked for the campus.
  • 2018 – the first batch of B.Tech students began studies in Computer Science & Engineering and Information Technology.
  • 2019 – a research partnership with IISc was inked, creating joint AI and robotics labs.
  • 2020 – flagship M.Tech programmes in Data Science, Cybersecurity and Embedded Systems were launched.
  • 2021 – the Ministry of Education conferred the ‘Centre of Excellence – Digital Innovation’ tag.
  • 2022 – the inaugural Ph.D. cohort graduated and the university filed patents for AI‑driven health‑diagnostic tools.
  • 2023 – the 15,000 sq ft KUDSIT Innovation Hub was opened, backed by Kerala Startup Mission.
  • 2024 – NIRF placed KUDSIT at #8 among Indian universities for Industry‑Linked Curriculum.

Today KUDSIT enjoys a solid reputation: it is 62nd overall in the NIRF 2024 rankings, 8th for industry‑linked curricula, and sits in the 401‑450 band of the QS Asia 2024 rankings – the only Kerala university in that slot for digital sciences. It holds an NAAC A‑grade (Cycle 2, 2023) and NBA accreditation for all its engineering programmes. Over 60 MoUs with global giants such as Microsoft, IBM, Cisco and Indian powerhouses like TCS and Infosys fuel faculty exchanges, joint research and guaranteed placement pipelines. Within just five graduating batches, alumni have landed jobs at top MNCs, launched more than 30 startups (including two fintech and health‑tech unicorns), and earned prestigious fellowships like the Google Ph.D. Fellowship and Microsoft Research Scholarship.

For research‑focused students, KUDSIT runs full‑time and part‑time Ph.D. tracks across six schools – AI & Machine Learning, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Sustainable Energy & Smart Grids, Digital Humanities and Design & Innovation. Candidates need at least 55 % in the relevant master’s degree (or NET/UGC‑JRF) and receive a UGC‑SERB stipend of ₹31,000 per month, financed by agencies such as ISRO, DRDO, SERB, MNRE and industry partners. The admission process is online (portal.kudsit.ac.in), followed by a screening test or interview, after which successful scholars enjoy a full tuition waiver and the monthly stipend.

Admission to UG programmes is mainly through KEAM, with a typical cutoff rank of 30,000 for B.Tech streams. PG admissions require a good GATE score (≥400 for CS/IT) or university entrance, while Ph.D. aspirants must be NET/GATE qualified or clear the university’s interview. Fees are payable in two instalments, and the university follows the Kerala government’s 50 % tuition waiver for SC/ST/OBC candidates. Scholarships are available for merit (up to 30 % waiver), women in tech, and economically weaker sections, ensuring wider access to its cutting‑edge curriculum.
