For admission to the MA English program at IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) in 2025, the eligibility criteria are as follows:

1. Educational Qualification:

   • A Bachelor’s degree (BA) in any discipline from a recognized university.

   • Candidates with a BA (Hons.) in English or a strong background in English literature/language may find the program easier to follow, but it is not mandatory.

2. Minimum Marks Requirement:

   • General Category: At least 50% marks in the qualifying degree.

   • Reserved Categories (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD): A relaxation of 5% is given (i.e., 45% marks).

3. No Age Limit:

   • There is no upper age limit for admission to the MA English program.

4. Medium of Instruction:

   • The program is offered in English, so proficiency in reading, writing, and comprehension is essential.

5. Direct Admission (No Entrance Test):

   • Admission is merit-based (on a first-come, first-served basis) and does not require an entrance exam.

Additional Notes

• Foreign Students: International candidates must have a valid student visa and meet IGNOU’s equivalence criteria.

• Lateral Entry: Not applicable for MA English; students must complete the full 2-year program.
