What is Bachelor of Architecture?
B.Arch. is a bachelor level course. B.Arch. the academic program is related to the field of Architecture and consists of a holistic mixture of classroom lectures, studio practical sessions and practical training. Skills which are required to become an Architect are covered in this course. In each project or assignment, the activities of an Architect are different. Mainly the skills required in this course are constructing skills, analytical skills, and drawing skills. It also requires practical skills rather than theoretical skills.
Course Details
Duration for B.Arch.
B.Arch. is a bachelor level course with a duration of 5 years. There is a total of 10 semesters in these 5 years. Into two stages the academic program in devided. From semester 1 to 6 is a full-time study stage. There will be a practical training period after the 6th semester. During these 6 months, students have to gain practical experience. Thesis work is involved in B.Arch. course after the 9th semester.
Eligibility for B.Arch. Admission
- Candidates who want to take admission should have passed 10+2 examination with Mathematics and English as compulsory subjects & secure at least 50% marks in the examination.
- Candidates can also apply for B.Arch program who have 10+3 year Diploma in any stream.
Admission Procedure
Through JEE Main, NATA which is conducted by Council of Architecture every year, candidates can get admission in this program. There are different criteria for admission to every college or institute. Shortlisted students will be called for the counseling process and on the basis of skills and availability of seats after clearing the NATA exam.

Job Prospects
Architects are asked to serve as a designer as they work with construction companies. Most of the jobs in architecture come up in government organizations such as Town and Country Planning Organization, Post and Telegraphs, Public Sector Undertakings, National Institute of Urban Affairs, Departments of Railways, Ministry of Defense, National Building Organization, Public Works Department, the Archaeological Department, Housing and Urban Development Corporation, National Building Construction Corporation Ltd., etc.
In terms of earning, architects working independently have ample scope. As there would not be any other person to assist him, he require good models and graphics which is the case when he works with some construction company.
Pay Packet
In the range of INR 20,000 to 30,000 starting salary for an Architect may vary. After 2+ years growth is registered. Candidates can get salary in the range of INR 50,000 to 60,000 with work experience of more than 5 years. A huge crunch of trained architects is being felt when mammoth investment from government and private real estate developers is coming up. As India is going to expand FDI in real estate, the demand is expected to increase in the next couple of decades and it will attract huge money from foreign companies.
