Duration of the Programme

  • Minimum duration for M.Phil. the programme shall be two (2) consecutive semesters/ one year
  • The maximum duration for M.Phil. the programme shall be four (4) consecutive semesters/ two years, excluding course work.
  • The minimum duration for the Ph.D. program shall be (3) years, including course work and a maximum of six (6) years.
  • For submission of a thesis extension of one year may be given to Ph.D. scholars on the recommendation of RAC.
  • Relaxation of one year for M.Phil. and two years for Ph.D. in the maximum duration will be allowed to women candidates and persons with disabilities (more than 40% disability).


Eligibility Criteria

For M.Phil.

  • Candidate should have a Master's degree with at least 55% marks or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master's degree with equivalent grade.
  • From 55% to 50% relaxation of 5% of marks may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC.

For Ph.D.

  • Candidate should have a Master's degree with at least 55% marks or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master's degree with equivalent grade.
  • From 55% to 50% relaxation of 5% of marks may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC.
  • A candidate who have completed M.Phil. course work with at least 55 % marks. From 55% to 50% relaxation of 5% of marks may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC.
  • Assam University candidate whose M.Phil viva voce is pending may be admitted to the Ph.D. program after a certificate issued by the examination branch.


Admission Fee

  • Admission Fee for M.Phil 700.00
  • Admission Fee for Ph.D. 1000.00


Procedure for Admission

  • Admission will be given through an Entrance Test to be conducted annually.
  • Candidates will get 10% of her/his PG grade/ percentage of marks as a bonus over the entrance examination score who have PG degree from Assam University, SLET/ GATE/ teacher fellowship holders / UGC-NET (including JRF)/ UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF). 

Entrance Test
