Ayurveda, “Science of Life†is a holistic, traditional Indian system medicine. The principle objective of Ayurveda is maintenance and promotion of health, prevention and cure of diseases.
The Arabian coastal belt is known for abundant availability of medicinal plants. People of Mahe and the surroundings traditionally seek Ayurveda for their well-being. Because of these demands for Ayurvedic medicine, Government of Puducherry intended to start an Ayurvedic college in Mahe, the only one educational institution for the Indian Systems of Medicine.
The 11th Governing body meeting of PerunthalaivarKamaraj Medical College Society (PKMCS), Puducherry held on 28th January 2010 under the Chairmanship of Honourable Health Minister, Puducherry accorded approval for establishing Rajiv Gandhi Ayurveda Medical College (RGAMC) at Mahe.
