Nabakrushna Choudhury College of Teachers Education (NCCTE), Angul was established in 1955. Initially named as Teachers Training College, the College was given the dignified status of College of Teacher Education, Angul in 1988 as per the recommendations of National Policy on Education (NPE). The College affiliated to Utkal University is the second oldest College of Education in the state of Orissa. The college got its present name from the former chief Minister and great freedom fighter and outstanding social worker, Late Sri Nabakrushna Choudhury. Apart from the B. Ed and M.Ed Programme the college also offers short and long term training programmes for in-service teachers. The College has equipped itself with all the necessary infrastructural facilities.
The college is affiliated to Utkal University, established in 1943. This is the oldest university in Orissa and the seventeenth oldest university in India. The University was started under the Utkal University Act, 1943. It is a teaching-cum-affiliating University that has produced some of the best brains in Orissa. There are at present twenty-six Post-Graduate Departments located in the University Campus for studies and research in various disciplines of Science, Humanities, Business Administration, Social Science and others. It has the largest space amongst all universities in Bhubaneswar and is also the most centrally located one. It has one of the highest numbers of educational departments in India and is also the state largest in this respect. The University has now the jurisdiction over 9 districts, viz, Angul, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri and is spread over an area of 24,973 sq. kilometers catering to the needs of higher education of a population of more than 110 lakhs.Utkal University has been recognized by UGC and it also has the membership of the Association of Indian Universities.
