Assam University was established in 1994 with enactment of the Assam University Act 1989. Campus of the university is situated at Dargakona, about 20 kms away from Silchar. For the researchers, students and the people interested in academic excellence campus provide an ideal environment and spread over 600 acres. At Diphu in the district of Karbi Anglong, Assam the other campus of the university is situated. Over the five districts of Assam viz., Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong, Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi. From all over the country faculties, staff and students are hired in the university. Diphu campus of the university is located at 3 km from Diphu railway station in the northwest side of the town. Wthin the premises of the Diphu Government College campu was housed on 18th July 2008.
